TORONTO, April 30, 2013 – With the launch of Tower Hill Developments’ new 2221 Yonge Condominiums on Yonge St. at  Eglinton Ave., the Pei architectural dynasty makes its towering mark once again on the skyline of Canada’s largest city.
Tower Hill retained world-renowned, New York-based Pei Partnership Architects in collaboration with Toronto’s Quadrangle Architects.  They have created an elegant, sleek, sophisticated, 56-storey tower, which will transform the city’s Midtown district at Yonge and Eglinton. with its stunning cantilevered terrace design.
According to Tower Hill Development’s Vice-President Russell Masters, “This elegant, luxury tower epitomizes our key principals as a developer and will bring something extraordinary to this amazing neighbourhood.  We try to create buildings that are liveable, unique and will stand the test of time.  We are confident we have done exactly that with 2221 Yonge Condominiums. .”
With a range of suite designs from studios to three-bedrooms starting at $199,900, 2221 Yonge is already generating widespread attention as Midtown’s most affordable and desirable luxury condominium project. That buzz is being fuelled by the neighbourhood’s array of amenities ranging from restaurants and movie theatres, to chic boutiques and family-friendly parks, steps from the subway.
“The experience of working with Pei Partnership Architects to design this beautiful residential landmark community has been fantastic,” Masters said. “The Pei family’s work has changed cities around the world, and we believe that 2221 Yonge will define Midtown Toronto for generations to come.”
Pei Partnership Architects, founded by Chien Chung Pei and Li Chung (Sandi) Pei, has used a simple twist of 2221 Yonge’s soaring tower and clever manipulation of materials to create a sun-filled amenity space with striking landscaping atop the building’s six-storey podium, along with spectacular suite views. New York-based Pei Partnership Architects are well known for constructing era-defining buildings such as The Centurion condo in New York City and Commercial Bank of China Headquarters in Beijing.
Quadrangle Architects is one of Toronto’s most well-known architecture firms and their condominium communities can be seen across southern Ontario.
“We sought to distinguish this project from ubiquitous glass tower schemes by highlighting its wraparound balconies as a unique design feature, rather than as appendages to a large glassy mass,” said Sandi Pei, the lead architect on the project. “Ours is an updated version of the modernist concept that provides abundant outdoor living space, shading, and privacy from adjacent buildings.”
Pei’s design incorporates a wide array of world-class amenities including the sprawling Rooftop Sky Lounge featuring an outdoor terrace and lounge area. Perhaps the building’s most spectacular amenity is the avant-garde Wet Spa, an indoor oasis featuring warm, hot and massage pools, as well as private treatment rooms. The opportunities to retreat and relax don’t end there. 2221 Yonge’s seventh floor offers extensive lounge space, two media and gaming theatres, a comprehensive fitness studio and outdoor seating areas with fireplaces, barbecues and stylish cabanas.
The building’s interiors are being designed by Toronto’s Munge Leung.
