MIKEY NETWORK Chairman Hugh Heron (centre) and Executive Director Morty Henkle (at left) and members of the Mikey Team, were recognized with the inaugural Stephen Dupuis Community Award at the 32nd Annual  BILD Awards on April 27/12  This Award recognizes a BILD member company or individual committed to community building through exceptional charitable/community involvement. The MIKEY NETWORK Communications Team includes Ad agency, Ryan Design (Linda O’Connor, Kristen-Mayer Creamer, Melissa Halfyard); PR consultants The Communications Group Inc. (Rhoda Eisenstadt, David Eisenstadt, Gea Koleva) and Web Developer/Social Media Consultant Real Digital (Ian Gordon).
Named for the late President and CEO of the Building Industry and Land Development Association, the award was established to honour a member company or individual who demonstrates exceptional charitable/community involvement.
The Mikey Network was founded by friends and colleagues of Mike Salem of the Heron Group of Companies and Heathwood Homes, who died on a golf course in 2002. In his name, this charity installs public-access defibrillators called MIKEYS in high-risk locations.
“It is an honour for The Mikey Network to receive the very first Stephen Dupuis Community Building Award,” said Executive Director Morty Henkle. “Like Mike Salem, Stephen championed the practice of builders giving back to the greater community. Both were family men who were well-respected across the industry. They truly cared, and they walked the talk. The Mikey Network involves volunteer participation on numerous levels, and this award increases awareness of the organization. We are privileged to carry on the work of saving lives in the memory of these two fine human beings. And that work is possible thanks to the generous spirit of Heathwood Homes and The Heron Group of Companies. To date, 13 lives have been saved and their families can celebrate with their loved ones because of our MIKEYs.”
The Mikey Network has trained over 10,000 people in CPR/AED and has placed more than 1,200 MIKEYS in schools, community centres, arenas, seniors centres, sports facilities, major attractions, libraries and businesses, including one at BILD headquarters.
