TORONTO, June 30/10 … Law Society of Upper Canada Treasurer Derry Millar has returned to his full-time private practice as a Partner at WeirFoulds LLP, one of Canada’s oldest law firms, this year celebrating its 150th anniversary.
In addition to serving as the Law Society’s Treasurer since June 26, 2008, Mr. Millar has also served the legal community as a director on a number of boards, including Legal Aid Ontario, LAWPRO, LibraryCo and Pro Bono Law Ontario.
Mr. Millar was first elected as a bencher of the Law Society in 1995 and re-elected to a fourth consecutive term in 2007. He has held a number of high-profile positions, including Chair of the Inter-Jurisdictional Mobility Committee, which worked successfully to allow lawyers to expand their services across Canada. He has also served as Chair of the Finance Committee.
In 2001, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. From 2003 to 2007, he was lead Commission counsel for the Ipperwash Inquiry.
